Chorley Ramblers Group

Paths around the country can quickly become overgrown or blocked, due to a missing bridge or broken stile. Sometimes a gate may be locked or a sign put up and all of these affect people's access to the countryside and the benefits of walking. Reporting these path issues will make sure they get sorted and the country's paths remain usable for people to enjoy.

Chorley Ramblers has a programme of regularly checking the paths in the countryside surrounding Chorley. Our area has been split up into 23 districts and Chorley Ramblers members volunteer for the role of Footpath Warden to look after one or two of these districts.

As the area has been split into 23 districts, the role is not onerous. Each district contains about a dozen public footpaths which need to be checked about twice a year. The Footpath Warden's role consistes of the following tasks:

      • Checking, by walking, specific paths or all paths in a particular local district
      • Identifying any problems or issues that affect the usability of the paths
      • Reporting problems or issues to the  Area Footpath Coordinator

We currently have vacancies for Footpath Wardens in the following districts:

      • Adlington
      • Eccleston

If you would like to help Chorley Ramblers by taking on the role of Footpath Warden for one of the areas above, please contact the Footpath Co-ordinator to discuss the role. Should you wish to volunteer we can arrange for you to accompany one of our experienced Footpath Wardens on one of their checks to help you find out what to look out for.
