On to Lytham Hall where we can enjoy lunch in the gardens and then return along the driveway and make our way back through Witch Wood and back along the Promenade. Continuing along Old Hall Lane we pass Old Hall and cross the motorway to reach Back Lane. 132 13/12/2025 Blackpool Tower and Stanley Park Starting at Stanley Park we walk down to the Tower and seafront to take in the views before heading back to the park where we will have lunch. You can either bring your own sandwiches or have lunch in the cafe. Leaving the park we walk through Salisbury Woods and around Marton Mere then head back through the Italian Gardens in the park. Following the Ribble Way we cross the old bridge to enter Miller and Avenham Parks, then after a look at the progress with the rebuilding of the Tramway Bridge we return along the old railway to the car park. 127 30/11/2025 The War Horse Walk Starting from Ormskirk Station we will follow the Smith Way to pick up the route the horses would have taken to the Remount Depot at Lathom Park.   We will pass Lathom Chapel to continue across farm land to pass the site of Burscough Priory and the Abbey caravan site where we will have lunch, then return via Lady Alice's Walk and Ruff Wood to Ormskirk  The walk is flat but there may be muddy patches on the farm tracks. 126 29/11/2025 Parbold Fairy Glen and Harrock Hill Following the canal initially we make our way to and up the Fairy Glen to cross the A road near the Boar's Head, Bronze Age Tumulus. Onwards to Harrock Hill visiting the old windmill and Trig Point. Passing through Harrock Hall Estate we drop down to High Moor and Hilldale on our way to Parbold Hill with it's viewpoint and 'Bottle'. Down the hill we go back to the start point.   Philip G. 125 25/11/2025 Whittle-le-Woods from Buckshaw. Starting from the Sports Area car park to the north of Buckshaw Village we cross Cuerden Valley to reach the A6 road in Whittle-le-Woods. After following the line of the old Lancaster Canal we pass the Whittle Hills to reach Lucas Green before continuing into Buckshaw Village to cross the hill back to the car park. Dave M. 124 23/11/2025 Brinscall to Abbey Village We ramble down the Nature Trail on the former railway line to Abbey Village where we follow the track to the reservoir by New Close Farm. Following the edge of the reservoir to the Witton Weavers Way which leads us through Red Lee Farm back to The Hare and Hounds in Abbey Village at the A675. Heading back towards the Nature Trail we pick up another path leading to Bury Lane by St Paul's Church where we cross the lane to another track passing The Green Cow Farm Shop and Heights Farm on our way back to Brinscall. 123 22/11/2025 Nicky Nook Leaving Scorton we will climb steadily up Tithe Barn Lane and across the fields up to Grize Dale. Then up this lovely dale and onto the path leading us to the trig point on Nicky Nook, where if we are lucky we will enjoy panoramic views over Morecambe Bay and Bowland. Starting from to Yarrow Valley Car Park in Euxton (Euxton Skate Park) we descend to Common Bank before crossing the River Yarrow and railway to reach the Bowling Green PH at Charnock Green. After Old Hall Farm we descend to Back Lane continuing to again cross the River Yarrow . Continuing across the fields we reach Culbeck and Chapel Brook to return to Euxton through woodland. 120 15/11/2025 Grassington Hebden circular Starting from the visitor centre on the car park in Grassington. Our journey starts by walking up through the village, then turns off the Main Street to head out onto well trodden paths towards Intake Lathe. We then continue to climb up to enjoy superb views from Old Moor Lane. Before slowly winding downhill to Hebden beck and the village of Hebden. (An option at Hebden time permitting and if the walkers would like we may be able to briefly stop at the old school tearoom for a warm drink or a cake.) Starting from the Sirloin PH (closed) on the old road in Hoghton we cross the fields to Gib Lane continuing on to the ruin of Highfield Farm before dropping to the River Darwen at Hoghton Bottoms. We then follow the riverside path to Pleasington Golf Course before climbing to the road in Pleasington. After descending towards Witton Park we cross the railway to join the canal tow path in Cherry Tree which we follow to the old mill sites on the edge of Feniscowles. 107 11/10/2025 10 miles: Whitbarrow Fell/ Nature Reserve (+ cave) from Gilpin Bridge Inn. **NB: See car park info below** Wainwright credited Whitbarrow as the most beautiful of the 56 Fells detailed in his "Outlying Fells of Lakeland" pictorial guide book; "beautiful it is every step of the way. It includes a traverse of the finest part of the Scar top and returns through delightful woods along the base of the cliffs...the walking is exceedingly pleasant in surroundings high above encircling valleys and amidst scenery that has no blemish. All is fair to the eye on Whitbarrow". I can't improve the above save to say this 10 mile no rush/leisurely paced (1250ft total ascent) "day out" also includes charming views over the Kent Estuary and an open level into an old drift mine for exploration if wished plus post walk refreshment at The Gilpin Bridge Inn if wished.  Bring a torch if you're going in the cave. We then descend to the top of Long Lane before passing Shaw Place to reach The Street above the Upper Rivington Reservoir. Starting from the top of Whins Lane near the Higher Wheelton we follow the canal towards Withnell Fold before climbing the fields to reach Top o' th' Lane. We then follow paths back through Balderstone and Osbaldeston Green round Oxendale Hall back to the start. Some of the paths are not often walked so can be overgrown. Starting from the lay-by's on the A6 in Heath Charnock we follow the canal south around Adlington eventually leaving it to follow the Rotary Way up to the motorway and the road beyond.  We then complete the circuit by crossing the fields to reach the entrance road to Chorley Golf Club which leads us back to the A6. 100 20/09/2025 Whalley and Sabden Leaving Whalley, we walk towards Spring Wood Nature Reserve climbing uo to Clerk Hill and follow the the lane to Wiswell Moor Houses which drops down on grassy tracks to Sabden where we stop for lunch. From there we make our way up to Padiham Heights and Black Hill dropping down to Read Park and back to Whalley. Starting from Brinscall we climb to the top off Well Lane then cross the moor on a good track passing through Drinkwaters to reach the top of Great Hill. We then descend through Pimms to the Belmont road before dropping into the Roddlesworth Woodland, rounding the reservoirs to reach Abbey Village. 93 26/08/2025 Ryal Fold to Cartridge Hill up on Darwen Moor From Crookfield Road car park we go to Ryal Fold through Tockholes Nr 3 Plantation having passed by the ruins of Hollinshead Hall. After a short rest, up on to the moors we go on the track to Lyons Den. From the footpath junction we then head on the tracks to the high point of Cartridge Hill, at 402 m for some good views, should the weather be favourable. Leaving the pretty village of Barbon, we make our way up towards Barbon Manor before turning off to Barbondale following the beck to Blindbeck Bridge. We then climb up to Hoggs Hill passing the nearby Bullpot Caving Centre.  After following a quiet lane for a short while, we climb up to Brownthwaite Pike and make our way down towards Casterton , turning right into the Fellfoot Road track. From Brinscall Swimming Bath's car park we head up towards Pike Lowe and Snape's Heights via Brinscall Hall before heading down to Withnell Fold with it's Memorial Garden. Starting from an old road lay-by off the A6068 west of Higham we round the village of Higham climbing gently up towards the ridge of the Forest of Pendle. We head down from the fell to Cartmel weather and time depending we may get chance to explore Cartmel, purchase an ice cream or have a quick drink. From there we will take the gentle track to Rivington to cross the causeway by road. Turning right (i.e. north) along The Street, we will reach a road, cross it and follow field paths to Back Lane. Here we turn right and walk on the road for a short distance before we reach Healey Fold Lane. This is an unsurfaced road which is good to walk on. 3 07/01/2025 Heath Charnock and Red Bank from Birkacre. Starting from the Yarrow Valley Park at Birkacre we pas through the park to enter the fringe of Duxbury Woods. Following field paths to Wigan Road we then cross to the canal at Rawlinson Lane in Heath Charnock and follow the tow path to reach Bolton Road. After passing through Red Bank we again touch the fringe of Duxbury Wood before returning along the track of Burgh Hall Lane. Dave M. Moderate 5.97 26.78
