The walk starts in the grounds of Lancashire's first Asylum (The Moor Hospital) now residential. Down to the River Lune to Halton, then a riverside route to the Crook O Lune, then across the river back to the Lune Aqueduct and a short canalside walk to town. Starting by walking to Parbold and on to Newburgh via the canal. We will pass through the Christmas tree farm to Bluebell Wood. You then need to continue down Tower Road into the park, past the changing room building on the left and over a small bridge towards the Crematorium and the car park is on the right, just before the entrance gate posts of the Crematorium. The walk goes up through Big Cover Wood (several flights of steps) and Billinge Wood to the Wainwright viewpoint then across fields and to Close Farm where it drops down to Hoghton Bottoms. It then follows the river Darwen for a short while before heading up a further short steep section to come out at Pleasington Priory. In all there are 9 stiles.
