Chorley Ramblers Group

Our Walk Leaders

Our walk leaders are the life blood of our walking group. They are knowledgeable, experienced and play a vital role in ensuring that the Chorley Ramblers group has a wide variety of walks to choose from. They put a lot of time into planning, making sure the proposed walk is suitable, walking the route in the days leading up to the advertised date to ensure that the conditions are walkable (the "recce") and, of course, leading the walk on the day. All this is done behind the scenes so that members can just turn up on the day and enjoy a safe, enjoyable walk. Although there is some work involved, the walk leaders do it because of the satisfaction they get knowing that they are helping people enjoy our beautiful countryside.

New Walk Leaders

From time to time one of our walk leaders may need to hang up his/her boots, so we are always on the look out for new walk leaders to keep the numbers up. If you think you would like to give leading a walk a try, there is a lot of support available. If you are interested in giving walk leading a go please contact either Martin or Alan in the first instance to discuss how we can support you. We are keen to hear from you:

    • If you already have some walk leading experience and would like to offer a walk for Chorley Ramblers for the first time
    • If you are completely new to walk leading and have a walk in mind. We can provide an experienced walk leader to accompany you on a recce of your walk
    • If you just want to see "how it's done".  We can invite you to go with one of our walk leaders on a recce of one of their own walks so you can see what's involved.

Remember there is no obligation. If you come along to a recce or even lead a walk and decide that walk leading is not for you, that's not a problem. It is OK to give walk leading a try and decide you would rather just walk as a member.

Proposing a walk

Walk leaders can propose a walk using the Ramblers Walks Manager or they can send them to Martin or Alan.
